Primary Focus and Ongoing Activities

  • Encouraging communities to create Community Biodiversity Conserved Areas and join larger biodiversity peace corridors and trans-border corridors.
  • Building a platform for Community Conserved Areas to share challenges, experiences, and conservation success stories.
  • Raising a Biodiversity Ambassadors Network of children and young people.
  • Using resource mapping, management plans, People’s Biodiversity Registers, camera trapping, and documentation to support sustainable livelihoods.
  • Digitally documenting biodiversity and assessing conservation status using the IUCN Red List to guide protection efforts.
  • Promoting AlijoCademia, a traditional learning model that combines academics, values, craft, culture, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.
  • Supporting village councils, women, children, and emerging young leaders to participate in community development and resource management.
  • Advancing Chen Jen, a community bank model, to support rural development and microfinance.

Forest Rejuvenation and Ecosystem Restoration

Since its inception, Lemsachenlok has collaborated with communities on plantation initiatives and reports that around one million trees have been planted. During 2024 and 2025, through MissioEcology and with Tata Motors Limited, the organization undertook a major plantation drive and planted nearly 15 lakh tree species selected for air quality, wildlife value, groundwater recharge, nitrogen fixation, herbal use, and climate adaptability.

The organization also promotes biodegradable materials in collaboration with Ecostarch and Sutsung Enterprise Private Ltd., and actively raises native seedlings that both support environmental restoration and generate income opportunities for participants.

Livelihoods

Through Integrated, Innovative, Scientific Sustainable Livelihoods of Rural Areas (IISSLORA), Lemsachenlok has developed a Community Integrated Farm where communities work together and share the benefits equitably. The initiative includes short-, medium-, and long-term income opportunities, including piglet distribution for community members and women’s self-help groups.
